Fourth Friday of each month:
10:30am Beach Hammock trail walk
This 1 mile walk starts at the Ranger Station and take guests into one of the last remaining Tropical Hardwood Hammock (maritime forest) habitats in Broward County.
Guests will learn about the unique features of our sub-tropical wooded areas as well as our small, residual coastal dune lake systems. Guests will also receive an introduction to the primary plant and animal species that populate these ecosystems.
A general overview of the original inhabitants of SE Florida will be discussed together with the historical relations between the first settlers and the original inhabitants. Lastly, guests will have an opportunity to see the highly endangered Beach Jacquemontia plant in its sensitive habitat area and learn about preservation efforts that are underway.
