About this Event

Become a student of your body to learn the tools and techniques for self-healing and self-care by enrolling in the "Be Your Own Massage Therapist" course.

In this time of social distancing, while public wellness practices are limited, I would like to continue to empower you to breathe deeply, move freely, and live fully in your bodies by sharing tools for self-healing and self-care.

Self myofascial release (MFR) is a self massage practice that utilizes massage tools to apply myofascial release techniques to oneself. Like massage, self MFR improves circulation, immunity, digestion, sleep, and mobility. It decreases stress and anxiety to promote overall health and well being. What is powerful and unique to self myofascial release is its ability to increase proprioception, balance, posture and self-regulation. As a result of improving proprioception, or self awareness of one's body in space, there is a direct decrease in the experience of pain. Through this work you feel more embodied in your body and empowered with the tools for self-care to keep you feeling better and moving better.

In this 8 week course you will learn specific sensing, breathing, movement, and meditation techniques to address pain, restriction, and dis-ease to support your body to return to a state of ease and well-being. With the guidance of a physical therapist you will be given appropriate modifications to meet yourself right where you are to do this work safely and effectively. And upon completion of each class you will then be provided with a video recording of the course so you can continue this practice independently.

Thursday, August 20: The Quads, Psoas, and Core. The Deep Front Body.

Thursday, August 27: Love your Low Back.

Thursday, September 3: Breathe Deeply: Thoracic Spine and Ribcage Release

Thursday, September 10: Exploring the Upper extremities. Rolling the Shoulders, Arms, and Hands.

Thursday, September 17: Tension Tamer: Head and Neck Release

Thursday, September 24: Full body Therapeutic Self Massage
