Share Be Your Own Hero - Startup Stories from the World of Roller Derby

Event Details

Stories from entrepreneurs and how they took the track to be their own hero.

"Well, put some skates on, be your own hero." ~ Whip It

Roller derby is a sport that encourages people to put on their own skates and be their own hero.

Entrepreneurs who have done just that - dreamed big, taken the leap, laced up their skates and took the track - will be sharing their stories and experiences of what it took to prepare and set off into brave new worlds.

From political campaigning to the gaming industry, from personal training to the salon industry --- these speakers talk about what it takes to create new spaces with a mission in competitive industries.

Madison Roller Derby is proud to bring together an eclectic group of go-getters and leaders who have proven themselves champions in their own right.

Mad Rollin' Dolls

It is the mission of Mad Rollin’ Dolls, Inc. to provide a safe, inclusionary space to foster the development of a competitive women's flat track roller derby athletic program, build leadership skills through volunteer opportunities, and make a positive impact in our community by serving as role models for our peers and future generations.

Mad Rollin’ Dolls (MRD) was founded in 2004 as a fully volunteer-run organization, and has continued as such to present day. In 2015, the league adopted governing bylaws and converted to a Wisconsin Non-Stock corporation. In 2016, MRD was granted federal 501c3 non-profit status as a sports organization.

The league’s membership consists of voting and non-voting members as skaters, officials, and volunteers. Our league membership has grown from three teams of 14 skaters at its inception to four teams of 20 skaters, a recreational team with average enrollment of 50 skaters per session, 30 skating and non-skating officials, and 30 non-skating volunteers.
