Event description

Description

Get the courage, support, and opportunity to perform stand-up comedy in LA while doing real work to break down gender and racial inequalities in Hollywood! Through this experience you will conquer your fears of stand-up with a supportive group, learn how to prepare for an comedy routine and DO stand-up at an open mic night in one of LA’s most encouraging comedy clubs.

MEET: A group of 5-10 of us will meet at a restaurant/bar to discuss the day. We’ll talk about our experience with stand-up comedy, our favorites, and what we expect from the experience.

TEACH: go through stand-up basics and how to set up a joke and find personal humor.

BRAINSTORM: get into groups and talk about stories or life experiences we have that might make it into our set (take notes).

WRITE: break off for to gather those ideas and write out a 2-3 minute script.

PRACTICE: run your script/ideas by me (or a small group) and see if it sticks and how to punch it up.

PERFORM: as a group, head to an LA open mic at Flappers and support each other as they go up and do their thing!
