Event Details

The 2016 Boston Comedy Arts Festival covers 3 stages and features Improv, Sketch, and StandUp Comedy.

Friday, September 9 @ 10PM at the Cambridge Public Library

Aparna Nacherla

Aparna Nancherla is a comedian of the stand-up variety, but can often be seen sitting. She recently wrote for Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC. You can also see her on the current season of Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central and on the upcoming season of Love on Netflix. In addition, she currently hosts the long-running popular underground New York comedy show, Whiplash at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater on Monday nights at 11 p.m.

Her artistic journey took off in Washington D.C. (it’s all about the Washingtons), but she now resides in the biggest apple in the gosh darn world.

Aparna’s sense of humor tends toward the dry, observational variety, but do be warned, her act runs rampant with absurdism and unregulated whimsy.

Other credits include writer and performer on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell and appearances on Conan on TBS, Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, @midnight, and Adam Devine’s House Party on Comedy Central, NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Seeso’s Night Train with Wyatt Cenac and Rooftop Comedy’s Live From the Barrel House, VH1’s “I Love the 2000s”, TruTV’s How to Be a Grown Up and Friends of the People, and Fuse’s White Guy Talk Show. She has also done videos for Above Average, Refinery29, Funny or Die, Slate V, and MTV Other.

North Coast

With a cast of improv comedy veterans in New York City, North Coast’s explosive performances have been packing comedy venues, universities, and festivals nationwide since 2009. Built around a single suggestion from an audience member, the show’s improvised scenes escalate into full-blown hip-hop songs, facilitated by resident beatboxer and World Beatbox Champion, Kaila Mullady. With their seamless melding of comedic timing and freestyle rapping abilities, North Coast frequently blurs the line between comedy show and concert, drawing audiences from the comedy, hip-hop, and theater communities for an experience that has been hailed as “mind-blowing” and “next level” by critics and audiences alike.

Named one of the “Top Ten Best Comedy Shows” by Time Out New York, North Coast has been featured on Vh1, in Slate’s Podcast The Gist, The Village Voice, and The New York Times Comedy Listings. Currently, you can catch them performing every Saturday night in New York City at The Peoples Improv Theater.

StandUp Openers

Jenny Young

Jenny Young is a New York based comedian from Los Angeles. She has performed all over the country and in clubs such as the Comedy Store in Hollywood and Caroline's on Broadway, and is a regular at the New York Comedy Club. Catch her sleeping on a subway train near you!

Kwasi Mensah

Kwasi is a stand up, sketch performer, and lasagna maker that bridges the gap between insightful observations about race and still thinking he could be a Power Ranger when he was 15. He's opened for the socio-political comedian W. Kamau Bell and has been featured in the 2015 Boston Comedy Festival, The Comedy Exposition in Chicago, and several others festivals across the country.

Jiayong Li

Jiayong Li bid farewell to his family in Beijing and embarked on a journey of mathematical study at MIT. Along the way, he came upon stand-up comedy, and started delivering his cerebral material in a calm and comfortable voice. Watching him perform is a side-splitting yet soothing experience
