BASU ESSENCE @ 7:30AM
Basu Essence is no stranger to wholistic health and wellness. At 12, she won first place at the Atlanta Carribbean Jerk Festival's cook-off competing against well-established restaurants and culinary gurus, with her all vegan cuisine. She then went on to start her own vegan catering business "Gotta Have It Raw", focusing many of her dishes on raw food delights. She has serviced everything from community banquets, personal private gatherings, to the Six Flags concert series. Community health education has become a huge passion for her. She recently founded The Afrikan Living Foods and Indigenous Wellness Institute in Atlanta to further her outreach. She is a student at The University of Mawiyah since 2013, where she studies various wholistic healing modalities and nutrition. She first was introduced to yoga at 14. At 15 became the youngest Kemetic Yoga Basu certified instructor under the "Thef Neteru Sema Paut" system, and since has traveled to the Carribbean to assist with certifying other Basus. She offers Yoga classes to both children and adults alike and thrives on sharing this ancient art form that has the proven ability to restore Afrikan people around the world to their divine greatness!

Althea Lawton-Thompson has earned her nickname, The Renaissance Woman. She ignores the traditional “choose-a-core-and-stick-to-it” concept by being the President of Aerobics, Yoga & More™, a corporate wellness company; the author of two books - Losing Control and Twenty; an intuitive empath who has counseled hundreds of clients along their spiritual life journey; and the producer of the internationally popular Altheatized™ fitness video series. Althea leads annual wellness and adventure retreats throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Africa and she is a popular party deejay and emcee.
Althea has taught and trained new instructors in a variety of Yoga styles and Meditation since1998 Currently, she prefers to lead groups in flowing meditative movement that is conscious, aware, purposeful and safe. Having lived in many different cities, Althea and her husband of twenty years currently reside in a suburb east of Atlanta and are the proud parents of two teenage sons.

Ona Hawk is a certified yoga teacher in the ancient science of Kemetic Yoga. She is founder of Firehawk Yoga, a studio in Atlanta, GA dedicated to the philosophy, tradition and holistic healing sciences of our African ancestors. Her precision in practice and her unique ability to communicate the art to others has enabled her to teach across a variety of populations and to inspire many to engage in a yoga practice that reconnects black people with their own history and culture. Since her start in 2013, Ona has committed to making the knowledge and benefits of yoga, healthy eating and self-knowledge accessible to her community and abroad to provide the tools to self-heal and to enjoy happiness and success along the journey of self-development.

Nzinga, brings to Egyptian Yoga, an inviting, non-judgmental, compassionate approach that can be enjoyed by novice level students and any Yoga connoisseur. Nzinga emphasizes comfort in the postures and practice of yoga, as well as patience with the self as the body adapts to the ways the mind inspires it to stretch. Nzinga further encourages family involvement as parents are welcomed and encouraged to bring their children to attend the yoga sessions.
“Yoga is a science, a psychology, if you will. It includes the way you live your life, the way you nourish your body, your movements, proper breathing, meditation and studying for deeper insight. My practice, of Egyptian Yoga, has helped me grow my confidence on and off the mat. Egyptian Yoga inspired me to breathe through each moment, stretch myself and interact with the spiritual essence of my being. In completing my Egyptian Yoga (Thef Neteru Sema Paut) Certification with Aunkh Aukhu, I am deeply grateful for the experience and exposure. I seek to help others nurture their body, mind and soul with this system of yoga. It is my greatest desire that you step off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished and balanced.”
Nzinga is a free spirit whose classes are relaxing, playful and sincere! She likes reading, watching cooking shows and singing along with sultry singers such as Anita Baker and Lalah Hathaway. She loves yoga because it makes her feel good and allows her to make time for herself.
