G.E.M.S., Inc. is honored to collaborate and partner in producing our next Bay Area Family Literacy Day event with the African-American Museum and Library at Oakland (AAMLO).  This year’s mission is dedicated to promote literacy with the theme of “Education is Life". The event features interactive literacy enrichment experiences for youth, aspiring writers/authors and families in the areas of reading and writing, health and finance.  Enjoy a full day of educational, motivational and inspirational activities and special guests meet & greets for the entire family.

Get Your Book Done in 30 Days or Less! - Have you ever dreamed of writing and publishing a book but don’t know where to start? This workshop will help aspiring writers and publishers to get rid of their excuses and publish a book this year! 

"The Scholarship Thief: Behind the Scenes College Prep" - Essay writing, discovering your scholarship profile, the importance of attending college, and some next steps to get you started. There will be opportunities  to answer student questions, and point them in the right direction towards their goals.

 "Read So You Can Lead" - Learn and discuss the benefits of reading, what happens when you can't read, and "To Code Switch or Not" -- Knowing when and where to relax your language.


POST-EVENT RECEPTION ($20/ticket donation) 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

No minimal age requirement.  However, all children must be attended by an adult or guardian.

No outside food / drinks, prohibited inside the museum.
