Performer Bios:
❤ Dixie De La Tour is a sexual folklorist, professional storyteller, podcaster, teacher, coach, community builder and most of all, a facilitator. She is also the Founder, Curator & Host of the Award-winning and NSFW storytelling series, Bawdy Storytelling (“The Moth for Pervs” - LA Weekly, “The Original Sex and Storytelling series” - Playgirl) that’s been lauded for its transformational, relatable, empowering performances. This live stage series is currently headed into its 13th year, the groundbreaking Bawdy Storytelling podcast has had over 1.5 million downloads, plus it’s been acknowledged as a ‘Best Of’ Sex podcast from Forbes, GQ Magazine, Marie Claire, Uproxx, Daily Mail UK, Bustle and (twice!) by Esquire Magazine.
Dixie has been Sainted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (“Saint Kiss & Make You Tell”) for her work to reduce stigma and eliminate shame, and she recently became a Muppet. Discover more about Dixie De La Tour and Bawdy Storytelling at Facebook.com/BawdyStorytelling, on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/bawdystorytelling/ on Twitter at @Bawdy and always at www.BawdyStorytelling.com
In addition to story and public speaking coaching for her own series, Dixie coaches for TEDx, Women in Technology, offers custom Brand Storytelling coaching, has led storytelling events in Libraries, teaches Storytelling for the Classroom and has been a featured teller for the National Storytelling Conference. Ultimately, this story-loving southerner is passionate about storytelling’s ability to keep people safe, reduce social anxiety and connect us with strangers. Stories help you find your people!
❤ Justin Hall is the creator of the comics series Hard to Swallow (with Dave Davenport), True Travel Tales, and Glamazonia. He has stories in the Houghton Miflin Best American Comics, QU33R, Best Erotic Comics, and the SF Weekly, among others, and has exhibited his art in galleries and museums internationally. He edited the Lambda Literary Award-winning, Eisner-nominated No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics, which he’s now producing as a feature-length documentary film. Hall curated the world’s first museum show of LGBTQ comics at the SF Cartoon Art Museum, as well as the largest such show at the Schwules Museum in Berlin. He’s the first Fulbright Scholar of Comics, an Associate Professor of Comics at CCA, the Co-Organizer of the Queers & Comics Conference, and has written on both LGBTQ comics and erotic comics for the Routledge Companion to Comics and the Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel.
❤ April Kidwell is the writer, producer and star of I, Nomi - the one woman musical comedy about the life of Nomi Malone before and after Showgirls. Off B’way: Showgirls! The Musical! (Nomi Malone), Bayside! The Musical! (Jessie Spano); San Francisco: Drag Becomes Her (Anna Nicole Smith), Legally Black (Anna Nicole Smith), Trixie & Katya’s High School Reunion (Christy), Buffy the Vampire Slayer Live! (Willow); Film: The Bride of Death (dir. Michael Phillis), You Don’t Nomi (dir. Jeffrey McHale) and Eat the Rainbow (dir. Brian Benson). She is a proud student and volunteer of the Earthship Academy and Foxhole homes - building off the grid, self sustainable houses made of natural and recycled materials for homeless veterans. More info at www.aprilkidwell.com.
❤ Jeffrey Allen Hayes has been many things: theatrical sound designer, drama therapist, activities coordinator for LGBTQ seniors, special ed teacher, and sex club janitor. Currently he makes a living as a professional game master, facilitating tabletop role playing games (including Dungeons and Dragons) for players of all ages and experience levels. He is also cohost of the podcast Everything Is Sacred, examining the media we hold sacred and why, which will debut in 2020.
❤ When Mosa Maxwell-Smith first discovered storytelling she craved it so much that she started hosting story parties with friends in her living room. That was 2011, before the Moth was even in the Bay Area. She is elated by the explosion of storytelling as an art form and connector of humans over the last decade, and has been privileged to perform regularly at a variety of venues, including Story Slam Oakland, the Mill Valley Library, and (always a favorite) Bawdy. She also tells stories on a daily basis in her role as a preschool teacher (though the content is usually slightly different and the audiences smaller). Mosa is a devotee of connection and serendipity and is grateful to Dixie De La Tour for bringing more of both to her life through the gift of Bawdy. She is delighted to be out past bedtime on a school night telling this story to someone other than her cats.
❤ Rachel Lark is a San Francisco based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her music has been featured on The Savage Lovecast and Salon.com and she tours regularly throughout the U.S. and Europe. Her new video, National Emergency, is blowing up on YouTube right now, watch it! She's well known for the songs she's written for Bawdy Storytelling (Warm, Bloody, & Tender, F*ck 69, The Unicorn Song, Didn't See It Comin', and too many to list) and you can learn more at
