Event Details

The 1st Annual Battle At The Alamo Beer Company will take place at the Alamo Beer Garden on Saturday, April 29, 2017.  This is a team competition.  All teams MUST be two-person coed teams.  We will have three separate workouts. The entry fee is $90 per person.  WE ARE CAPPING AT 150 TEAMS (300 ATHLETES)!

The entrance to the parking lot is off of Lamar street and will open at 6:15 AM.

Packet pickup and athlete check-in will go from 6:30-7:30 AM.

The athlete briefing will be from 7:35-7:50 AM.

Competition will run from 8:00 AM- 2:00 PM (Approximately).

The awards ceremony will happen immediately after we compile the scores and assuming the weather cooperates and we have no major delays, we will be finished by 2 PM.

Each workout will be run in waves of 20 teams.  We will post a heat sheet on Friday, April 25, 2017 on our website (  You can check this to get a rough estimate of when your heat will start.  During the competition, we will announce which heat is currently running.  However, it is your responsibility to know which heat is running at all times.  If you arrive late for your heat your will be disqualified.

Packet Pickup

You can pick up your packet the day of the event at the Alamo Beer Garden.  We suggest you get there early. The parking lot will open at 6:15 AM.  Have your captain come to the check-in table and take your team box that will include all the shirts, meal tickets, beer tickets, raffle tickets, and goodie bags.

Please find links to the three workouts (and scoring) AND a video describing each movement/activity below.

WORKOUT 1                            WORKOUT 2                            WORKOUT 3

VIDEO (WORKOUTS 1 & 2)                         VIDEO (WORKOUT 3)

The men will use half kegs (15.5 gallons) filled with enough water to have them weigh 40 lbs., while the women will use pony kegs (7.75 gallons) filled with enough water to have them weigh 25 lbs.  If you want to purchase some kegs with which to practice, HERE is a website with reasonable prices.  You can take the kegs to any beer distributor and they can fill them with the needed volume of water.  Be sure to check the weight after filling the kegs. While empty the kegs weigh approximately 29.7 lbs and 14.85 lbs respectively.  A gallon of water weighs approximately 8.34 lbs.  You can do the math…

TejasFit will also be hosting our March Madness WOD at the Alamo Beer Company on March 25, 2017.  The WOD will be the same as the first Workout 1 above.  Registration is $20 and includes a beer ticket and shirt.

Total Score Calculation

Each team will have a cumulative time for the first two workouts.  For each pound lifted by the team during the Hang Snatch 3-Rep Max, one second will be subtracted from the total time.

Each team will be followed by a judge throughout each workout.  If you do not complete a rep to the judge’s satisfaction, they will call a “failed attempt” and you must repeat that rep.

Team Divisions

There will be two divisions for this competition, the Elite division and the Scaled division.  The weight of the beer kegs in Workout 1 will be kept the same for both divisions.  For Workout 2, the weights will be as follows:

10 Hang Cleans

Elite division 115 lbs for men/65 lbs for women

Scaled division 95 lbs for men/55 lbs for women

10 Barbell Deadlift

Elite division 115 lbs for men/65 lbs for women

Scaled division 95 lbs for men/55 lbs for women

10 Plate Raise

Team Awards

The top three teams in each division will win gift certificates from our sponsors.

Box/Gym Awards

For each division we will take the average times for the teams present.  The top three Boxes/Gyms will receive a banner to hang at their place.  A Box/Gym must have at least 4 teams entered in the division to be eligible for this competition.

Please go to register.  You must designate a captain who will register the team and pay for the entire fee up front.  He/she will make a team name and a password and then each team member will login to register and sign the appropriate waivers.

  2. Men must wear a shirt or tank-top with hemmed edges.  In other words, no home-made tank tops with frayed edges and no under-shirts.  Ladies may compete in sports bras if they choose.  But they must have their numbers on a number belt or attached directly to their shorts.

The following are items that we suggest you bring with you:

  1. Food and drink.  We will be providing lunch and dessert but feel free to bring your favorite fluids and snacks.  However, no outside alcoholic beverages will be allowed at the Alamo Beer Company.
  2. Sunscreen
  3. Hat
  4. Wrist tape or wraps

  7. Chairs

The following are items that we DO NOT want you to bring with you:

Race Course Etiquette

The following is a list of basic rules for the race.  Failure to follow these rules could result in your disqualification from the event.

  1. Stay in your lane.  Each lane will be between 9 feet wide.  That is plenty of room to work with.  If you lose control of your body or weight and drift into another lane, you will be assessed a 10-second penalty.  If you impede the progress of the competitor in the adjacent lane(s) you will be disqualified.
  2. Watch your language.  Letting loose a couple of curse words under your breath will be forgiven.  However, DO NOT curse out loud.  This is a family-friendly event.  If a judge deems it too loud you will be given one verbal warning and then assessed a 10-second penalty for a second offense.  If you curse out loud a third time you will be disqualified.
  3. DO NOT under any circumstances argue with the judges.  These good people are volunteers who have given us their time to help with the event.  If you have specific concerns please come directly to the one of the three race directors in the RED T-shirts that say “Race Director” on the back.  We will listen to your concerns and try to fix the problem.  However, remember that each judge has been trained for this event and we will defer to their judgment unless we have direct evidence to warrant an overruling.

Your entry fee includes:

  1. A one-pint beer glass (for the first 100 entrants)
  2. A ticket for one beer

Q:      What will happen if it rains?

A:      This is going to be a rain or shine event.  We will delay the heats if we have a downpour or if there is lightening within 6 miles of the venue.  Otherwise, we are a go.  Bring a change of clothes because you are going to get dirty.

Q:      Are spectators welcome?                    Is there an entry fee?

A:      YES and ENCOURAGED!                      NO!

Q:      Can we bring food, drink, and coolers?

A:      Yes, but no alcohol.

Q:      When will my heat start?

A:      Please refer to the timeline above.  Barring any major delays for weather we should stick pretty close to               the agenda.

Q:      What time will beer and food be served?

A:      Food will begin being served at 11 AM.  For obvious liability reasons, beer will not be served until the last             heat finishes Workout 3.  You will have plenty of time to finish your beer while we hand out awards.  Feel             free to stick around and enjoy the Alamo Beer Garden!
