BATTERY DANCE

Battery Dance, host of the Battery Dance Festival and workshop series, has been based in Lower Manhattan for 41 years. Its founder and artistic director Jonathan Hollander has produced nearly 100 original dance works in collaboration with a diverse array of composers, designers, and a cast of outstanding dancers. Together, company dancers and workshop leaders, Mira Cook, Bethany Mitchell and Sean Scantlebury, have led Dancing to Connect Workshops and performed in over 64 countries. They will be teaching repertoire from one of the newest company's creation: Reconstruction.

COMPAÑÍA NACIONAL DE DANZA CONTEMPORÁNEA DE REPUBLICA DOMINICANA

Compañía Nacional de Danza Contemporánea de Republica Dominicana (CNDC), formerly ProDanCo, began in 2010 with the goal of encouraging contemporary dance in the Dominican Republic. Today, the CNDC falls under the guidance of Cuban choreographer Marienela Boán. Boán has worked in more than fifty countries across the globe and has recieved numerous major choreographic awards during her career. In 2014, the Ibero-American Meeting of Women in the Performing Arts paid tribute to her work with the Glo Award. With her help, la Compañía Nacional de Danza Contemporánea de Republica Dominicana has given a strong presence to contemporary Dominican dance in important theatrical curcuits, presentation and production networks, and events around the world. In the past two years alone, the CNDC has performed in four major international festivals.

CÍA ELÍAS AGUIRRE

Cía Elías Aguirre is a contemporary dance company that bases its choreographic work on the study of nature and its relationship with humans. Founded in 2008 under the direction of Elías Aguirre, they have crafted multiple works inspired by the observation of insects. Mr. Elías Aguirre is a dancer, choreographer, photographer, and visual artist of high stature, who graduated from The University Complutense of Madrid and the Dance Conservatory of Madrid. His work has received outstanding reviews and his choreography has been honored multiple times. Since 2011, Cía Elías Aguirre has been the resident company of the Local Government of Madrid, and is currently supported by renowned Spanish Institutions such as Comunidad Madrid and Centro Danza Canal. Awards include 1st prize at Burgos Nueva York Contest in 2010 in Spain, 1st prize at Certamen Iberoamericano Alicia Alonso in 2010 in Cuba, 2nd prize at Madrid Choreographic Contest in 2010, an Award from the Superior Conservatory Dance of Madrid in 2009, and a Cultural Award of Madrid in 2010.

BOLLYLICIOUS

Founded in 2012, Bollylicious is a Belgium-based dance collective that was created with the goal of bringing Indian dance culture to international audiences. They perform all facets of Indian dance, from classical to popular genres, in an effort to present Indian dance in a way that is accessible to people of all backgrounds. Bollylicious has brought Bollywood to Dutch and Belgian television through appearances on Dansdate and So You Think You Can Dance. In March of 2016, they performed for India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji during his visit to Brussels. Having been touring in India for the past two years, the dance technique of Bollylicious has recieved much praise there. From shows at the Neemrana Fort Palace to private performances for His Excellency Gaj Singh, Maharaja of Jodhpur, Bollylicious has found success performing for a wide array of occasions and audiences.

MOPHATO DANCE THEATRE

Founded in 2009 by Andrew Letso Kola, Mophato Dance Theatre (MDT) is Botswana's first Afro Fusion and Contemporary dance company. MDT was created with the vision of blending contemporary dance with traditional African dance, and the realization of this vision has brought with it impressive results. In 2011, MDT won My African Dream Battle of the Finalists. The very next year, MDT went on to perform at the Stepping Stones Program, Dance Umbrella 2012 where they were chosen by the dance forum in Johannesburg as the winners of the Pick of the Stepping Stones Award. Under a decade since their inception, Mophato Dance Theatre has already performed in Botswana, Nambia, the United Kingdom, China, Nigeria, South Africa, and Belgium.
