Bats: Myth and Reality
Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM (EDT)
Bats are among the world’s most fascinating and beneficial animals. Yet after centuries of misinformation and myths we needlessly fear and often persecute them. This program debunks these myths and introduces attendees to the many important contributions these mammals make to ecosystem and human health. Discussion points include lifestyle, diet, disease, and conservation efforts, and the program is concluded with an introduction to live Florida bats. Learn the facts and protect bats! This event is sponsored by the Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve.
YOU CAN BUY A BAT HOUSE TOO!
There are many styles of bat houses available to consumers who wish to attract bats to their property but beware! Tricksters are everywhere! Many bat houses are built to be attractive yard ornaments but are doomed to fail as bat houses.
Bat Belfrys are hand-built to the exacting requirements of Florida’s roosting bats, using methods, designs, and materials that reflect over 20 years of field testing. When properly located, Bat Belfrys bat houses have an 85% occupancy rate. All houses include detailed mounting and installation instructions.
Two sizes available: 3-chambered house holds up to 350 bats and sells for $70 + tax; 4-chambered house holds up to 500 bats and sells for $100 + tax.
Cash, checks, Mastercard or Visa accepted.
