The next BRAUG meeting is scheduled for 12/05/2018. This time, we will be diving into a complete closed loop implementation of predictive analytics in our main topic. This will be preceded with a business sprint topic about team effectiveness. Dont miss it!

About BRAUG: This group is for both technical and business users - any and all who are interested in business analysis, data visualization, predictive modeling, traditional business intelligence, and everything in between. Please share this information with others who might be interested.

You may bring in your BI problems and we'll add it to the queue and discuss as time allows after the presentations are over.

AGENDA:

5:30 pm – 6:00 pm: Networking
6:00 pm – 7:30 pm: Presentations
7:30 pm – 8:00 pm: Open forum for questions

Business Sprint: What Makes a Team Effective? (Stephen Kerry, Turner Industries)
Details: TBA

Tech Sprint: Predicting a Bike Buyer with Analysis Services (Thomas LeBlanc, BI/DW Architect, Microsoft Data Platform MVP)
Details: This demo filled session will step through some predictive modeling functionality built into SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). We will start by review the data modeling and data cleansing needed before any predictive model design and implementation. After the data is formatted adequately for predictive modeling, we can start modeling and finding the best fit for examining forecasts and what if scenarios. SSAS provides models for clustering, neural networks, logistic and linear regression, decision tress and Naïve Bayes classifiers. We will not have time for all models, but be stepping through a couple.

Thomas LeBlanc (Microsoft Data Platform MVP) is a Data Warehouse Architect in Baton Rouge, and uses his 29+ years in IT to develop OLTP systems with normalized databases for high-performing T-SQL and dimensional data marts using SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Power BI, and Excel. As a PASS volunteer, he is past chair of Excel BI and Data Arch VCs and is active in the Baton Rouge SQL Server User Group and SQLSaturdays.
