Generoso Fucci purchased his Basilicata vineyard during the 1960s as a modest means of income for his family. Their beloved Aglianico grapes were sold off to local wine makers; however, a small parcel was set aside to make the family “Cru.” These humble beginnings would eventually become "Titolo" and his grandaughter Elena’s future.
Elena Fucci, the daughter of teachers, grew up a tenacious student – working deligently towards her studies while helping tend to the family vineyard. Upon entering university, she made the decision to study enology and make the family’s secret dream of winemaking a reality by bringing the estate to life.
The 15-acre Fucci estate is the oldest vineyard on the slopes of Mount Vulture. Over the centuries, the once active volcano compiled layers of volcanic lava, ash and clay – creating a strata that depicted the eruptive history of the region’s hollowed volcano. The terroir is rich in minerality, making it perfect for Aglianico. Aglianico del Vulture ripens later in the season and is harvested from October to early November. This unique varietal produces intensely flavored wines with the potential to be full bodied and richly textured, with a firm tannic structure and chocolate-cherry notes.
Winemaker Elena Fucci has been characterized by wine critics as “modern but not modernist,” interpreting Aglianico own her own terms without changing its inherent characteristics. Her signture wine, "Titolo", is refined, elegant, and quite approachable even young but with an optimal capacity for aging. This is a reflection of Fucci's dynamic skill and intuition in winemaking.
We invite you to enjoy Elena Fucci's "Titolo", expressed in different vintages and paired with dishes that echo the traditions and terroir of Italy's Basilicata region.
