BASIC TRAINING

A SERIES OF ONLINE INTRODUCTORY
STORYTELLING SEMINARS

PRESENTED BY STORIESLEAD

BASIC TRAINING SESSION 1
THE ELEMENTS OF GOOD STORYTELLING
THURSDAY MARCH 20, 1:00 - 2:00 PM ET
Virtual

Even if you're not consciously telling a story—one that’s well-crafted and propels a mission, vision, cause, or theme forward—you’re still telling a story. And more often than not, because of the busy day-to-day that we encounter in today’s landscape, that story isn’t strategic, but rather, disjointed, confusing, and inconsistent. But when we do consciously tell a well-crafted story, the benefits are immense: increased engagement with stakeholders, funders, supporters, and community members; increased publicity and visibility; increased exposure and connection with causes, and more. Whether you're a filmmaker or communications professional at a large nonprofit, great stories share a few key characteristics. This session will breakdown the key components of a good story; explore the benefits of understanding and articulating your story; and provide concrete ways to get started with better storytelling.

BASIC TRAINING SESSION 2
HOW TO TELL STORIES ACROSS PLATFORMS
THURSDAY MARCH 27, 1:00 - 2:00 PM ET
Virtual

Transmedia. Immersion. Interaction. The possibilities for media makers to tell stories in new ways are exploding and audiences are adapting, too. The acceleration of technology has changed media habits and increased choices. The ability to tell a story across different platforms is becoming more commonplace. Designed for media makers of all kinds, this webinar will explore strategies for effectively telling a story across platforms, examine different platforms available to storytellers, and discuss how cross-platform storytelling can be used to engage, build, and diversify audiences.

BASIC TRAINING SESSION 3
INCORPORATING TRANSMEDIA THEORY INTO MEDIA PROJECTS
THURSDAY, APRIL 3 1:00 - 2:00 PM ET
Virtual

Incorporating Transmedia Theory into Your Media Project
Transmedia is quickly emerging as the go-to buzz word. But what is it really and how can it be used to strengthen media projects? In this workshop, participants will delve into how to incorporate transmedia theory—research & development, worldbuilding, cross-platform engagement, participation/co-creation, and immersion—to better engage audiences and extend the reach and life of your story.
