Event description
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to prepare them for survival in a 72hour emergency

About this Event

The purpose of the Basic Survival Course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to better prepare them for survival in a 72-hour Emergency Scenario, using basic items that fall within the 10 C's of survivability.

Focus will be placed on the multifunctionality of these items for self-aid for injuries, emergency fire craft, shelter construction, water collection and disinfection. In addition, students will learn basic land navigation to prevent becoming lost and facilitate self-rescue, and how to signal for rescue if they should become lost or injured in the wild and unable to self-rescue.

"Basic" does not mean "easy". It means the essential facts or principles of a subject or skill. Our essentials will revolutionize your outdoor training by pushing you beyond the limits you would otherwise push yourself. During the course, you can expect to walk roughly 3-4 miles. You will be carrying your gear (approx. 35lb) as well as collected materials as needed for projects.

Instructors will teach and ensure proficiency and retention of knowledge and skills by using the EDI (Educate, Demonstrate, Imitate) Method of Training. Students will complete various timed exercises ("deliverables") both individually and as part of a team. Each deliverable is meant t push you closer to self-reliance. Our goal is always 100% successful deliverable is meant to push you closer to self-reliance. Our goal is always 100% successful demonstration of skill proficiency and successful course completion. If you do not give up on yourself, instructors will not give up on you.

Class Outline:

- Principles of Fire, Shelter, Water, First Aid, Navigation, and Signal

- Hikes of 1-2 miles
