Why Should I Take This Class?

This Basic Phlebotomy Skills Workshop adds needed skills to your toolkit! This course is designed with the practicing health care practitioner in mind. You will review the test tubes and additives, proper order of draw, practice basic venipuncture techniques using the evacuated tube system and the winged-infusion set (butterfly), and LOTS MORE!

Workshop Objectives:

  • Relate the mode of action and the importance of the additives and anticoagulants in the test tubes.

  • Demonstrate the correct order of draw.

  • Demonstrate the procedure for collecting blood with the evacuated tube system and the winged infusion set (butterfly) system.

  • Optional: (depends on class level of expertise) Review CLSI guidelines for finger sticks and heel sticks

Who Should Attend?

Practicing healthcare professionals who wish to review basic venipuncture techniques and national guidelines to enhance practice and patient care.

Continuing Education Credit: 0.65 CEUs

This course has been approved for 0.65 CEUs (equivalent to 6.5 contact hours). Each 6.5-hour session can accommodate 12 participants.
