This Group Riding Skills Class is developed for new riders or riders planning to ride one of the Texas MS 150 rides.
About this event
This Group Riding Skills Class is developed for new riders or riders planning to ride one of the Texas MS 150 rides. The Basic Class is designed for first time MS 150 riders or riders with 1-2 years of experience. The class is based on content from the League of American Bicyclists.
The Basic Class is 1 hour of Classroom instruction (conducted at the training site), and 2 hours of "On the Bike Skills."
Participants will learn:
- Primary Bike Safety
- Bicycle Safety Equipment (Helmet)
- Defensive Riding with vehicle traffic and other cyclists
- Vehicle rules and traffic laws for cyclists
- Proper signaling and communications
- Special Safety considerations when riding in a paceline
- ABC Quick Check for Bicycle Maintenance
- Hydration and Nutrition for a long distance bike event
- MS 150 Specific Safety Information (rest stops, SAGS, start)
- Obstacle Avoidance
- Emergency Braking
- Cornering
- Pace Line and proximity riding (riding close to other riders)
