Event description

Description

As we see media accounts of attacks against immigrants, Muslims, and other vulnerable communities, many of us have asked ourselves, “What would I do if I were there?” The good news is that there are skills and techniques that you can learn and practice to keep others safe.

You don’t have to be passive! This training will show you how to respond through non-violent communication and intervention strategies, while also addressing issues of implicit bias, what is violence, and structural and institutional racism. With over 20 years of peacekeeping experience, Meta Peace Team trainer, Sheri Wander and ICPJ certified facilitators will co-teach the basic tactics you can use to de-escalate and/or redirect threats and harassment.

For more information about the training, contact Germaine Smith, germaine@icpj.org or 734-663-1870.

Free and open to the public.

Co-sponsored by the Ypsilanti District Library.
