Description

Enjoy an interactive, fun and fact-filled class designed to prepare you for success in your study of Colorado's flora. Participants will be exposed to the plant kingdom and basic botanical terms as we get a close-up look at plant parts, discover scientific terminology and basic identifying characteristics, all to set you up for success in the field. No keying will be done in this class.

Trainer: Lenore Mitchell is in her 13th year teaching NPM courses. She is the president of Metro Chapter Colorado Native Plant Society. She also has taught for DU Olli and has led hikes for DBG, Roxborough State Park and CoNPS.

Optional Text: Colorado Flora - Eastern Slope, Fourth edition, Weber and Wittmann or Flora of Colorado by Jennifer Ackerfield available through Colorado Native Plant Society bookstore (https://conps.org/conps-store), local and online retail outlets and the publisher (800-621-2736).

When and Where to Meet: Please arrive by 5:45 PM. Class begins 6:00 PM sharp at the CSU Extension Office - Jefferson County, ECMR, 15200 W. 6th Ave., Golden CO 80401 (see map).

What to bring: Paper, pencil, hand lens (approximately 10x). The textbook and hand lens can be purchased through the Colorado Native Plant Society (https://conps.org/conps-store) or any on-line or local area bookstore.
