Event description
The Basic Benefits Course is designed for HR professionals seeking to understand and develop core Federal Benefits competencies.

About this event

This training is intended to introduce participants to the laws and regulations that govern Federal Benefits Programs. Course content will center around many of the provisions of Title 5 of the United States Code (U.S.C.) and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Participants will gain knowledge of the eligibility requirements for all Federal benefits programs, the various retirement and insurance options, as well as special considerations such as certain types of creditable civilian and military service, annuity computation formulas, service computation dates, and the Thrift Saving Plan (TSP). Several hands on activities are provided to stimulate learning and reinforce core concepts. Participants will operate in a simulated call center atmosphere with scenarios to elicit responses and discussions regarding insurance and retirement benefit issues that often encountered in the daily operations environment. This course is limited to 25 participants per session and is conducted over a 4-day period. Participants who successfully complete this training by scoring 85% or more on the final quiz are eligible to take Level I of the DoD Benefits Advisors Credential Exam.
