Day One of the BASC Fall Meeting will include sessions on Airborne Facilities in Support of Atmospheric and Climate Research, Future Opportunities and Challenges for Suborbital Facilities in Support of Atmospheric and Climate Research, and Understanding and Forecasting Air Quality Impacts of Wildfire.

Space for this meeting is limited.

Please note that attending the second day of the meeting on November 30 will require a separate registration.

Airborne Facilities in Support of Atmospheric and Climate Research

Session goals:

  • Learn about federally supported suborbital airborne facilities and plans for the next decade.
  • Consider the opportunities presented by new airborne facilities, including UAVs, and how investments in these new technologies might affect the overall portfolio.
  • Discuss interagency coordination in deployment of these facilities to meet research objectives related to atmospheric and climate sciences.

  • Learn about air quality impacts of recent wildfires, both in the immediate vicinity of fires and in areas downwind.
  • Understand what information about air quality impacts of wildfires is available and desired to address public health needs.
  • Discuss efforts to improve our understanding and forecasts of air quality impacts from wildfires.
