About the FESTIVAL

The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture is organizing the 19th edition of its signature festival called BARRIO ARTS FEST! This yearly summer event brings together a selection of local artists and craft makers, food vendors, dancers, and music performers and family workshop activities for the community to enjoy. During the weekend of July 13th and 14th, the museum will turn into a family gathering space that extends through the museum premises, including the museum facility keeping the galleries open as well.



Come for a weekend of local talent in a family friendly environment! Join us to celebrate the journey of our Museum, our beautiful Puerto Rican Arts and Culture and our vibrant community here in Chicago.



Festival Hours: Saturday, July 13, 2019 10am-6pm and Sunday, July 14, 2019 11am-5pm.



About the MUSEUM

The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture is a cultural and educational institution devoted to the promotion, integration and advancement of Puerto Rican arts and culture by presenting exhibitions and programming created to enhance the visibility and importance of the Puerto Rican traditions. Located in Humboldt Park, in the heart of Chicago’s Puerto Rican community, NMPRAC is the only self-standing cultural museum in the nation devoted to showcasing Puerto Rican arts, culture and historic exhibitions year-round.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

  • Every artist/vendors/food vendors/music performer must confirm their participation before Friday, June 28th, 2019.

  • Each artist/vendor is responsible for a non-refundable fee of $50 due at the time of submission. All submissions should be received by 6/28/19.

  • Food Vendor fee is $100. Submissions received after this date will be subject to an additional fee and managed based on space availability. All submissions should be received by 6/28/19.

  • All artists/vendors are encouraged to promote the event: Email, Social Media, word of mouth, etc.

  • All participants are responsible for the safe transportation and installation of their artwork. They should also bring their own tables, sign and linens (tablecloths). Installation time begins at 9:00am on Saturday, July 13th, 2019. Historically, the space distribution has been first come first serve basis. Please, arrive early. All installation must be completed by 11:00am!

  • Sunday, July 14th, 2019 set up starts at 10:00am. Break down starts at 4:00pm.

  • All artists/vendors are responsible for the security of their space. This includes having someone present at all times.

  • Artists/vendors are responsible representing a level of professionalism during the event including but not limited to notify their participation cancellation via email or call at least 48 hours prior to the event. Spaces must be attended at all times and ready by the time of the opening.

  • The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture is a non-smoking facility.


ARTIST SAMPLE OF WORK:

If you are a new artist/vendor, please provide as attachments three (3) samples of your work including suggested display to biancao@nmprac.org.


SPACE REQUIREMENTS:

Each artist/vendor is provided with a 10’ x 10’ space. Spaces are assigned first come first serve, beginning at 9:00am on Saturday, July 13th, 2019.

The Food Vendors will be located on our Lawn, (east corner) of our building and are responsible to clean-up their space. Spaces are limited!


NOTE:

This artist/vendor Application is exclusively for BAF19. All applications will be reviewed by the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture Programming Committee and will receive confirmation of participation within five business days after deadline of 6/28/19.
