Join the Portland Parks Foundation for a Sunday morning street party in the middle of W. Burnside to celebrate the Barbara Walker Crossing.

About this Event

We welcome everybody to the grand opening for the Barbara Walker Crossing. But please register for the shuttle, all-you-can-eat pancakes, and the Foot Locker fun runs in advance:

1. Shuttle service to and from the celebration from Washington Park MAX Station. Opening celebration and/or after. (You can also walk to the event from W. Burnside and NW 24th Pl—approximately 1 mile). Register here.

2. All-you-can-eat, multi-grain pancakes from Chris Cakes. Limited quantities, so sign up now! Register here.

3. Free 2.5-mile group run from downtown to the Grand Opening and/or the 100m Wildwood Dash presented by Foot Locker. Register with Foot Traffic.

Shuttle Information

Shuttle to the Event: Explore Washington Park shuttles will run every 15 minutes from 8 am to 9 am. They depart from the regular EWP shuttle stop on the plaza level of the Washington Park MAX station. If you wish to participate in the Foot Traffic 100 meter dash up Burnside, plan to take the 8 a.m. shuttle. The opening ceremony begins at 9:30 am.

Shuttle back from the Event: Shuttles will depart the event grounds between 11 am and 12 pm. Please note that the last shuttle will depart the event at 12 p.m. If you wish to take the shuttle back YOU MUST take the shuttle by 12 pm.

But what if I want to walk on the bridge? Fantastic. That's what we built it for! You can get back to the Washington Park MAX Station through Washington Park’s amazing trail system. Or you can also catch EWP’s regular, free, year-round shuttle at various points along the trail.

Getting to the Shuttle: There are many different ways to get to the Washington Park MAX Station at the Oregon Zoo. Please see Explore Washington Park’s Getting to the Shuttle webpage for public transit options. Please be mindful that parking is limited in Washington Park and consider taking public transit whenever possible.

All shuttles are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Please bring proof of registration to board the shuttle and get your pancakes either via printout or on your mobile device.

Schedule of Events

8:00 am

  • Shuttles begin departure from Washington Park MAX Station (Preregistration required)
  • Free group run departs Foot Traffic Down at 333 SW Taylor for a free 2.5 mile group run and walk up to the event. Register with Foot Traffic for this run.
  • Event grounds open. Burnside open to walk or run up beginning at NW 24th.

8:30 am

  • Band and Grand Ronde Tribe Color Guard leads parade from NW 24th Place and W. Burnside (Bicycles welcomed, but must be walked)
  • All-you-can-eat pancakes by Chris Cakes (Preregistration required)
  • Donuts
  • Coffee and tea
  • Bob’s Bars by Bob’s Red Mill (free while they last)

8:45 am

9:30 am

  • “Ribbon Tying” by Michael Curry and Bodyvox
  • Welcome and land acknowledgment by PPF Director
  • Song and a blessing from Siletz and Grand Ronde tribes, short speeches Adena Long, Portland Parks & Recreation Director, Commissioner Chloe Eudaly, Metro Councilor Sam Chase, Charles Swindells, Chair of the Walker Crossing steering committee, US Congressman Earl Blumenauer.

10:30 am

  • Ceremony ends.

10:45 am

  • “Walk the Walker Crossing” tours by Forest Park Conservancy, Pittock Mansion, Hoyt Arboretum, and others leave and access bridge via Fischer Lane

11:00 am to 12 pm

  • Shuttles run from NW Barnes Road and West Burnside to Washington Park MAX Station

11:30 am
