Event Details

It's time to celebrate another amazing new bridge in Portland, The Barbara Walker Crossing that bridges the Wildwood trail over Burnside Rd. Join us as we GO BY FOOT and host a short group run up to the venue AND a 100 meter dash on Burnside Rd. beginning right in front of the new bridge location. We are so excited and proud of the work the Portland Parks Foundation has done to rally our community around this integral crossing for the most famous trail in Forest Park! Never before (and likely never again) will you be able to run UP Burnside without cars whizzing by and fearing for your life. Join this iconic day with a run that is sure to leave your legs burning and kids smiling with pancakes and donuts and a beautiful new bridge at the finish.

If you wish take the shuttle to the dash rather than walk/run up to NW Hermosa from NW 24th and West Burnside, please register for the shuttle in advance HERE. You can also register for all you can eat pancakes at the same time! Shuttles start at 8:00 a.m. and run throughout the morning. If you prefer to take a shuttle, then plan to arrive at the Transit Center for the 8:00 a.m. shuttles.

THIS EVENT IS TOTALLY FREE and open to ALL AGES , but pre-registration is strongly encouraged!

  • WILDWOOD-THEMED COSTUME CONTEST (although any costumes are welcome if you choose to participate).
  • Free 2.5 mile group run to the bridge from Foot Traffic Downtown (333 SW Taylor) with free parking until 1pm. (strollers welcome)
  • Free 100 meter dash races on Burnside, with first waves starting at 8:45am.
  • PLACE RIBBONS AND FINISHER RIBBONS FOR EVERY WAVE OF PARTICIPANTS in the 100 meter dash!
  • FUN WAY TO get to the bridge ceremony by going by foot up to the venue!
  • Food carts, ribbon tying ceremony, and guided and unguided tours of the bridge and trails.
  • Pancakes and donuts!

To kick off the festivities that morning, Foot Traffic and the Portland Parks foundation feel there's no better way to commemorate the Walker Crossing than GOING BY FOOT and getting your kids (and parents) to join us for a short 100 meter dash up to the new bridge!

TWO START OPTIONS TO CHOOSE DURING REGISTRATION:

OPTION ONE: Show up by 8am to  Foot Traffic Downtown at 333 SW Taylor (free parking on Sunday morning!) for a free 2.5 mile group run and walk up to the event ceremony.

OPTION TWO: Show up before 8:45am for waves of fun and relaxed 100 meter dash races up Burnside up to the bridge opening location. Just show up directly to the intersection of Hermosa and Burnside before 8:45am. There is NO parking on Burnside, so you'll need to either take the shuttle metioned above or walk about a half mile up Burnside from 23rd Race to get to the event and bridge. Open to all ages and we will run waves on a rolling start beginning at 8:45am with kiddos 3 and under. There are two ways to get here for this option. See our “Getting There” page.
