Early Impressionism developed from the artists creative need to express themselves beyond the social constraints on artists of that time. It was the beginning of the freedom enjoyed today by artists to express themselves with their own individual voice. Contemporary Impressionism has evolved into many styles of its own today. I love the bolder approach often seen in the modern Russian Impressionists. Utilizing thick textures, bold brushwork and vibrant color injects the canvas with energy.

This workshop is designed to share some of the processes and techniques I use in my own journey into Contemporary Impressionism.

Barbara began painting in oils as a young girl as well as having a 30 year career in art restoration. Her knowledge of paint handling, techniques, and materials is extensive.

She is a signature member of Oil Painters of America and American Women Artists, and an associate member of American Impressionist Society.

Her work is available in Galleries throughout the US as well as online at www.barbaraschilling.com

Barbara has received National recognition for her sensitive handling of her flower subjects as well as her bold impressionistic landscapes.
