Event description
What do Maine's State Economist, Labor Commissioner, and Bangor's City Manager have to say about the impact of our aging population.

About this Event

Maine is the oldest state in the country. What does that aging population mean for our workforce, and for our communities? How are local and state government planning for the future? Join the BDN and local and state officials to discuss demographic trends and projections, and how these shifts are affecting life in Maine.

Cathy Conlow is the Bangor City Manager. She has served in the role since 2010, and previously was the Town Manager in Orono.

Amanda Rector has been the State Economist for Maine since 2011. She analyzes state economic and demographic conditions, is a member of the State of Maine’s Revenue Forecasting Committee and also functions as the Governor's liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Laura Fortman is the Maine Department of Labor Commissioner, a position she also held under former Gov. John Baldacci. She also served as a Deputy Administrator at the U.S. Department of Labor between 2013 and 2017.
