Bangladesh Open Data Day Celebration
Event Information
About this event
Open Data Day is an annual celebration of open data all over the world. Groups from around the world create local events on the day where they will use open data in their communities. It is an opportunity to show the benefits of open data and encourage the adoption of open data policies in government, business and civil society.
Keeping up with last year’s initiatives, Bangladesh Open Innovation Lab(BOIL) is continuing to celebrate this day to create awareness in the community about how open data can help the social and economic developments of Bangladesh and be implemented in policies. Open data movement is one of the most important movements of today’s digital world. The idea of Open Data asks for some data to be freely available to everyone to use and republish as they wish, without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control. If the open accessibility of data can be ensured in an organized way, it can result in adding huge socio-economic value to the developing community leading to a boom of innovations that can definitely help the policy making scenario of the countries. It could also end the control of powerful organizations with big data that are only being used for their benefits. But there are also a lot of arguments regarding limitations/challenges of the open data which need to be brought into the discussion table as well.
So, to address the importance and applicability of this Open Data, we are organizing this event to address the scopes, limitations and challenges of Open Data Movement and discuss the future applicability scenario of it.
