ABOUT THE ARTIST

Band of Friends featuring Davy Knowles, Gerry McAvoy and Ted McKenna is not a tribute band. Band of Friends is more of a celebration of Rory Gallagher’s life and music.

Gallagher’s music reached a massive audience from Norway to Spain, from Japan to the U.S., covering all parts of the globe and producing some of the greatest rock/blues albums of the 1960s, 70s and the 80s.

In the years that have passed since Gallagher’s death at age 47 in 1995, his true stature has become even more clear. This soft-spoken Irishman, characterized by his flowing locks and trademark working man stage clothes, was far from ordinary. Gallagher was a self-taught virtuoso who forged a musical revolution in his native land, shunned the traps of fame and stardom yet became a universally acclaimed international folk hero.

Gallagher’s rock-solid devotion to his calling never wavered and the respect of his musical peers was universal. Eric Clapton credited Gallagher with “getting me back into the blues.” The Rolling Stones tried to get him to replace Mick Taylor.

Guitarist /vocalist Davy Knowles is a seminal blues prodigy who routinely lights up rooms with his bellowing vocals and hair-raising guitar solos. He has toured with Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, The Who, Warren Haynes, George Thorogood, Peter Frampton, Joe Bonamassa, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Rhythm Devils, and the Satriani/Hagar-inspired super group Chickenfoot.

Bass guitarist Gerry McAvoy played, recorded and toured with Gallagher for 20 years, from 1971 to 1991 and played on every album Gallagher ever made. His 2005 book “Riding Shotgun” follows his career and life with Gallagher. Drummer Ted McKenna, best known for his work with the Alex Harvey Band, played with Gallagher from 1978-81.
