BANANAS! A Day in the Life of Josephine Baker is an award winning, one-woman tour-de-force play based on the extraordinary life of Josephine Baker. La Baker, also known as ‘The Duchess of Europe’, overcame limitations imposed by the color of her skin to become one of the world's most versatile entertainers. She was decorated for her undercover work for the French Resistance during World War II. From standing next to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, refusing to perform for segregated audiences, to adopting twelve children, ‘The Rainbow Tribe’ from around the world, raising them in their World Village in the south of France to prove by example that nations could live together in peace, Josephine Baker was a civil rights activist, humanitarian & performer extraordinaire.
