Baltimore+Rotterdam: Designing Cities
Each week this spring, two design groups, one from Baltimore (Maryland, USA) and one from Rotterdam (the Netherlands), pair up to discuss architecture, urban design, and how design and policy can improve the built environment for all residents. (More information about this conversation series)

About the speakers
Steve Ziger Ziger|Snead Architects (MCA)
Steve Ziger is a founding partner of Ziger|Snead Architects where he is a hands-on Design Partner, ever present during the entire evolution of a project. Through dedication to a distilled design approach, focus on relationships, and active community engagement, the firm’s mission that great design can have a positive impact on our quality of life has resulted in transformative projects for many non-profits and institutions in Baltimore and beyond. Steve currently serves on the boards of the Baltimore Design School, Baltimore Community Foundation, and The William G. Baker Fund. His life-long passion for design excellence, appreciation of art, and commitment to the community inspire his colleagues, clients, and friends. His commitment to design excellence contributed to his elevation to the AIA College of Fellows in 2018.
Jan Knikker MVDRV
Jan Knikker is Partner and Director of Strategy at MVRDV. Jan Knikker joined MVRDV in 2008. Prior to this, Jan Knikker shaped OMA’s public image for nearly a decade, after having first began his career as a journalist. As Partner and Director of Strategy at MVRDV, Jan Knikker drives Business Development and Public Relations efforts, spearheading a large and dynamic studio that also includes the office’s visualization capacity. He further leads the office’s branding efforts, and MVRDV’s expansion into new markets, by supporting the office’s ambition to generate solutions to global challenges through a multifaceted approach to architecture and urbanism.
Sinisha Brdar Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
Sinisha Brdar is an architect, urban designer and professor at UQAM School of Design in Montreal. He holds degrees from the Université de Montréal and Harvard GSD, where he studied on a Fulbright Fellowship. Sinisha has worked with a range of architecture and urban design firms, including OMA and Maccreanor Lavington in Rotterdam. Residing at the intersection of urbanism and politics, his current research focuses on the emerging paradigms of light urbanism and the notion of urban catalyst.
