Event description

Description

The City of Baltimore is overflowing with talented artists, which we pay special attention to every October with our Fall Arts feature story. Join Baltimore magazine and the Creative Alliance for an exclusive peek into four artists’ live-and-work spaces. On October 15, get to know the artists, learn about their work, and meet other art lovers along the way.

Ticket includes: tour of studios, a membership to the Creative Alliance (a $40 value), bites, wine, and beers from Monument City Brewing Company.

Thanks to the talented artists that will open up their live-and-work studio space:

Adam Davies - Adam Davies’s unmanipulated photographs explore points of intersection between architecture and the natural world. He received an EdM from Harvard University and a MFA from Carnegie Mellon University.

Alice Gadzinski - Alice Gadzinski’s sculptural work is an examination of authenticity, exploring ideas of taste and the pressures of social performance and examining the present through past "camp" iconographies. Gadzinski earned her MFA in Sculpture from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and her BFA in Photography from the Kendall College of Art and Design.

Jerry Allen Gilmore - Jerry Allen Gilmore’s most recent work reflects his realization that life’s every movement possesses a humorous bend in the river, where “one may be given aid by animals, magicians, and shamans or menaced by devils, clowns, and bumblebees. Where you go depends upon where you have been, and where you can go depends upon what you can imagine.”

Alfonso Fernandez - Fernandez earned his MFA from the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at MICA, where he was an apprentice to artist and Hoffberger School Director Joan Waltemath. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States, most recently at the Katzen Art Center at American University in Washington D.C., the Circa Gallery in Minneapolis, and the C. Grimaldis Gallery in Baltimore.

Expert guides will help guests navigate and offer insight into the studios and gallery space of the Creative Alliance.

Doreen Bolger served as the director for The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) for 17 years. She is a Medal of Honor recipient from MICA and a legend in Baltimore’s creative community.

Gabriella Souza is the arts and culture editor for Baltimore magazine, where she covers arts, entertainment, music, and culture.

Gina Caruso recently moved here from Honolulu, Hawaii, where she was Director and Film Curator at Honolulu Museum of Art's Doris Duke Theatre. A former resident of Baltimore for 16 years, she was Manager of Public Programs at the Walters Art Museum and also worked as an editor, photography editor, and writer for The Washington Post Magazine.

Jeremy Stern is the Exhibitions and Programs Manager at the Creative Alliance. He earned a B.S. in Studio Art from New York University and an Interdisciplinary Masters of Fine Arts from University of Nevada. While at UNR, he received the honor of Outstanding Graduate Student in 2011. He comes to us from C. Grimaldis Gallery in Baltimore where he was the Associate Director.
