Description

U.S. Premiere Screening

The New York Baltic Film Festival continues with a day that looks at the Baltics past and present, beginning with the Latvian film Baltic Tribes /Baltu cilts. In this vividly colored docudrama, brothers and co-directors Lauris and Raitis Abele stage dramatic re-enactments and animation reconstructing the origins of the Latvian nation, with a narrative following a Swedish merchant named Lars who travels through the exotic, sensual, and sometimes terrifying Baltic lands inhabited by various pagan tribes. (102 min. Latvia, 2018)

About The Directors:

Lauris Abele and Raitis Abele are Latvian filmmakers, born and residing in Riga. Lauris obtained Masters degree in Audio-Visual Arts (film directing) at Latvian Academy of Culture and his Bachelor's degree in Humanitarian Sciences (philosophy) at University of Latvia.
