+++ SORRY, THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT +++
OUT PROFESSIONALS INVITES YOU TO THRILL TO PROKOFIEV’S ’ROMEO & JULIET’ IN KRZYSTOF PASTOR’S POWERFUL STAGING FOR THE ACCLAIMED JOFFREY BALLET.
On Saturday, April 1, Members and friends of Out Professionals enjoy priority seating at Lincoln Center as the Chicago-based Joffrey Ballet, one of America’s leading companies, brings to New York Krzysztof Pastor’s terrific new “Romeo & Juliet.”
Performing here for the first time in 20 years, this international company of 42 dancers (LINK) brings to life Sergei Prokofiev’s astonishing score, performed by the Chicago Philharmonic, “one of the country’s finest symphonic orchestras” (Chicago Tribune).
Krzysztof Pastor’s classical yet contemporary staging “might just be the most eloquent, rapturous, emotionally searing ‘translation’ of the story you will ever see. The Joffrey dancers seem to be catapulted to the moon.” (Chicago Sun-Times).
The Joffrey’s production is a departure from the traditional Kenneth MacMillan version of Shakespeare’s play that New York audiences are used to. Pastor keeps the star-crossed lovers in Italy, but places them against a backdrop of 20th-century political strife. Act One is set in Mussolini’s Italy of the 1930s, Act Two takes place in a context of political terrorism in the 1950s, and Act Three unfolds during the political rise of Silvio Berlusconi in the 1990s.
The New York premiere of Krzysztof Pastor’s “Romeo and Juliet,” performed by the Joffrey Ballet. Doors open 7:30 p.m. Performance, 8 p.m. sharp. Final curtain, 10:30 p.m.
