Event description

Description

Discover a bit of ancient history connected with the Locks. Dennis Lewarch, Suquamish Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, will address how sea level rise after the most recent Ice Age, 10,000 years ago, likely affected land use practice by the first arrivals to the Puget. Sea levels were a few hundred feet lower when the earliest inhabitants arrived and many things have changed since then. Dennis offers an interesting glimpse into the changes that took place as sea level rise changed both living conditions and food sources. While fees are not officially charged for LOCKS TALKS, donations are accepted to cover speaker fees and the balance goes toward planned renovations of the fish ladder viewing area.
