Event description

Description

Want to be a leader in education? Our foundational graduate program in Education for Environment and Community (EEC), offered in partnership with the University of Washington, is a 10-month teaching residency preparing culturally-responsive educators capable of catalyzing community and environmental stewardship.

The program serves as the first three quarters of the M.Ed degree at the University of Washington’s nationally-ranked College of Education. It also fulfils the prerequisites for application to the Master's in Teaching for Elementary Teacher Education program at the University of Washington.

To gain a deeper understanding of admissions and student life at IslandWood, we invite you to visit our campus on Bainbridge Island, Washington. During your visit, you will:

  • Meet Dr. Déana Scipio, Director of the EEC Graduate Program and EEC alumna ('08). Learn how the program started in 2002, its evolution, and how our alumni are having a positive impact in the world.

  • Go on a campus tour. During the 1.5 hour/3-mile tour of our LEED Gold certified buildings and our 250-acre forested campus, you will explore diverse ecosystems (forest, stream, pond, bog, and marsh) and visit our popular garden classroom and graduate housing.

  • Enjoy a light lunch and Q&A session with alumni and mentors. Enjoy a meal prepared by our incredible chefs while hearing from alumni and staff how the design of the program offers a continuous cycle of theory and practice that can dramatically improve teaching practice.

  • Ask about admissions and financial aid during an info session with Theresa Song Ichien, M.Ed., Coordinator of the EEC program and EEC alumna ('11). Learn how to strengthen your application for admission to the University of Washington and IslandWood and what to expect after confirming enrollment.

WHO

Prospective students, recently admitted applicants, or anyone interested in learning more about the Education for Environment & Community Graduate Certificate Program are invited to register. Availability is limited, register soon.

WHAT

The campus visit includes opportunities to meet with key members of the IslandWood community, a tour of our main campus, graduate housing, and field structures and trails.

Demonstrated interest, as shown by attending any campus event, is not a factor in admission to IslandWood's graduate program in Education for Environment and Community.
