Event description

Description

Learn how to quickly and effectively cast your 72 Hour Shootout film submission to the Film Lab with casting editors from Backstage, the most trusted name in casting. At this workshop, Backstage staff, including former professional casting directors, will walk you through how to write and post an engaging breakdown on Backstage, how to filter though submissions, run in person or electronic auditions, as well as how to communicate with actors and put together the best cast possible. As always, filmmakers, content-creators, and casting directors will be provided with a special Film Lab promo code to post casting notices on Backstage for free.

ACTORS are also welcome to attend, network with filmmakers and learn how Backstage's casting processes work. Please bring headshots and resumes if you are an actor and please note the free code will only be available to 72 Hour Shootout filmmakers.

The wonderful Katie Swabb and Gillian Heller of Backstage will be on hand to answer questions. Hailing from Co. Down, N. Ireland, Katie began her career in political communications before being drawn to entertainment upon moving to the U.S. Prior to joining Backstage, she worked as an assistant talent agent (for film, TV & industrials) and as a freelance editor and tutor for Korean-speaking ESLs. She has a degree in English Literature and Linguistics, and is passionate about language-learning, travel, and independent cinema. Jill joined Backstage after 6 years of work in unscripted casting and development, where she specialized in tracking down teen moms, top chefs, and treasure hunters. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, baking, Netflix marathons with her husband Morgan, and making up songs for their feline child, Goose. Her go-to karaoke jam is probably a country song.
