About this Event

Three Strikes, You’re Out… Now What? Rethinking The Effectiveness of Consequences

Experiencing consequences is part of the learning process when children make mistakes. But it’s stressful when consequences don’t result in changed behavior. When you’ve run out of consequences... NOW WHAT? Based on principles of positive discipline and brain based learning, this session will examine how consequences can more effectively support behavioral change and motivate children as they learn new skills.

What’s In A Name? Using Children’s Names To Build Literacy Skills In Preschoolers

Young children have a natural fascination and curiosity about their name and take delight in seeing it in print. Making literacy connections to children’s names is a great way to capitalize on this interest and build important literacy skills. This session will explore fun ways to inspire learning and build community through the unique treasure each child possesses…their name!

Tuning In To Talk: Strategies For Extending Expressive Language Language is a critical tool that increases a child’s ability to communicate, express feelings, solve problems and interact socially. It is the center of all literacy and is what makes reading and writing possible. In this session, we overview the progression of oral language from zero to age four, identifying important milestones as the child develops. We’ll discuss practical strategies and teachable activities that encourage progression toward those milestones, that extend vocabulary and that get kids talking!

CPR: Training provided by Sherry Lowery of Georgia Piedmont Technical College. No more than 15 people can be in each class at a time. Additional fee of $20 for certification. Three classes available.
