Ready your Back-Packs as you embark on an exciting, new school year!!

Back-to-School-- Study and Test Taking Boot Camp

  • Sharpening study skills for test taking; focusing on achieving higher test scores!!

  • Targeting learning styles; maximizing impact on study strategies!!

  • Gearing up note-taking for both in and out-of-class notes!!

  • Covering academic terrain including retention techniques, time management, and test taking strategies………

Important Information for Parents: This workshop is geared towards helping youth better understand their unique style of learning and developing practical skills to improve achievement. This half-day version may not be appropriate children who struggle to maintain focus and manage their behavior or attention for an extended time. We will be offering a similar class during the school year, split into 2 days.

Date: Thursday, August 9th

Time: 8:30-12:30 pm

Location: Warren Township Youth Services, 100 S. Greenleaf St., Gurnee, IL 60031

Grades: Students entering 6-8

Cost: Resident $10*/Non Resident $20

*Need-Based scholarships available for residents

Snacks will be provided, along with a pizza party at the end (this is not a peanut or allergy free zone. Students are welcome to bring their own snacks)

About your teacher...

This class is facilitated by Debra Zegar, M.S., Ed. Debra holds a Master’s of Science degree in Education from Northern Illinois University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University, her TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certification from College of Lake County, is STAR (Student Achievement in Reading) certified, and has 20 years of teaching experience; teaching academic enrichment including Test-Taking, Power Planning, Note-Taking and Study Skills for both Middle School and High School Programming at the College of Lake County, in addition to Adult community-based ELL (English Language Learner) programming; as well as Health Care Bridge in Social Sciences, Intensive Reading and Writing, Grammar, Math, and career-based Pharmacy Tech. Additional classroom and volunteer experience serving as substitute teacher and volunteer; supporting students, parents, and staff in Warren Township, as well as surrounding districts and communities.
