“BACH TO THE FUTURE” CONCERT SERIES

PROGRAM:

W.A. Mozart | piano Piano Concerto No. 12, in A Minor, Op. 16, K414

  1. Allegro in A major
  2. Andante in D major
  3. Allegretto in A major

W.A. Mozart | Piano Concerto No. 13 in C Major, K. 415

  1. Allegro, in C major
  2. Andante, in F major
  3. Allegro, in C major

Mozart's Piano Concerti No. 12 and No. 13 were both written in the 1782-83 period, right after Mozart's arrival in Vienna, when, for the first time, he was introduced to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, who's composition fell out of favor post his death in 1750. One only has to listen, to hear Bach's influence upon the then 26-year old Mozart! Pianist Francesca Khalifa will perform these two Mozart concertos in their original reduced setting with string quartet.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Francesca Khalifa, Piano

“her piano playing is uncommon among the new generation, usually technical, muscular and shaped to amaze the audience. [...] the introspection of her interpretation is convincing, as much as the subtlety and delicacy of the phrasing, the nobility of the musicianship. It is clear that behind those hands there is a cultured and sensitive person who doesn’t want to “use” the music to show off”. - Alfredo Di Pietro

The Italian- Egyptian pianist Francesca Khalifa was the winner of the Ferrara International Piano Festival in 2014, awarded by renown pianist and musicologist Paul Badura-Skoda. She resulted also top prize winner in the Schio International Piano Competition Alink-Argerich Foundation (Finalist and third place), the Premio Loreto Lancia International Piano Competition (Winner), the N. van Westerhout International Piano Competition (Winner). Highlights of the upcoming season include concerts with Orchestra Pozzoli in Italy, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra in Egypt and solo recitals and masterclasses in Italy and the United States.

Active soloist and chamber musician, her recent performances include solo recitals and chamber music concerts both in Europe (Claudio Abbado Theatre in Ferrara, Piccolo Coccia Theatre in Novara, Eglise de Saint Merry in Paris, Kapelzaal in Leiden, De Tobbe Theatre in Rotterdam) and in the United States (Saklad Auditorium and Greenfield Hall in New York, Renee Weiler Concert hall in New York, Spectrum NYC, Brooklyn Center for the Arts. Concert Hall and Barness Recital Hall in Tampa, Art Gallery and Rehearsal Hall at the University of Central Florida).

As soloist, Francesca had collaborated with the Guido d’Arezzo Symphonic Orchestra (Italy), the Oosterkerk Festival Chamber Orchestra (The Netherlands) and recently she performed with MET Opera Orchestra string quartet in the realization of Mozart piano concertos in the original chamber ensemble adaptation (New York City).

Great supporter of music education, the pianist is currently on Faculty at the Greenwich House School of Music in New York City and had previously served as Adjunct Professor at NYU Steinhardt and Piano and Ensemble Assistant Professor at the USF School of Music in Tampa. She also has been the founder and the Artistic Director of the community classical concerts series Classical Thursdays at the Brooklyn Center for the Arts.
