At The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, a commitment to teaching is part of our mission and ensures that our patients and their families are well informed about their health and health care options. That’s why we offer a complete series of childbirth education courses in both English and Spanish, taught by highly trained and certified professionals. Our Baby Academy is designed to help you prepare for – and achieve – a memorable birthing experience.
These classes are offered as a weekly series, held every Thursday. Attendance at four classes is required to graduate. If a month contains five Thursdays, the fifth class is optional.

Week 3: March 16

Car Seat Safety discusses the current Texas Child Passenger Safety Seat Laws and provides information about how to select a car seat for your child adn ensures proper fit. The class is taught by certified child passenger safety technicians. Bring your car seat with you to the class so you can be taught the proper installation of your child’s seat.
Week 4: March 23
During week 4, our lactation consultant will discuss infant feeding cues - how to tell when your infant is hungry - and proper latch and positioning. Our childbirth educator will teach you how to care for your newborn. This includes what your baby may look like and what will happen in the delivery room. This class will end with a tour of our cozy Mother-Baby suites.
