Because our December fourth babe hike to Hedgehog Mountain sold out and filled up the waitlist within a day of announcing, we decided to put together a second hike for the same weekend! This babe hike is set for Mt. Willard in Carroll, NH. At 2,800' in elevation, and 3.2 miles round-trip, this is a relatively easy hike, and will be another basic introduction to cold-weather hiking. Mt. Willard has an excellent hike-to-view ratio, and is similar in difficulty to Hedgehog Mountain.
We'll meet at the Crawford Notch Depot Station at 12:30PM and hit the trail by 12:45PM.
We'll be taking the Avalon Trail for 0.1 mile, and then turning left onto the Mt. Willard Trail, which we'll follow for 1.5 miles to the summit of Mt. Willard. We'll retrace these steps back down to the trailhead.
This hike should take 2–3 hours total. To avoid congesting the trails, we'll stagger the start with groups of 5–8 people. Everyone usually reunites at the summit and at the trailhead however, because the groups can get spread out over the course of the hike, no one is required to wait for the entire group at any point. Everyone should hike their own hike and enjoy it! It's never an issue to go slow, take breaks, or even turn back early.
If you know friends that will be attending the hike, please try to plan a carpool if you can. Dogs on leashes are allowed, and welcome to hike with us!
The trailhead is located at the Crawford Notch Depot Train Station immediately before the AMC Highland Center on Route 302 West. (We recommend inputting Crawford Notch Station into GPS / Maps.)
