Event description

Description

Bold, Black & Beautiful Nurses (#B3N) was founded to encourage current African American nurses, as well as aspiring future nurses. The urgency for this group began when the founder, Gwen Lane, CRNP, was approached by potential nursing students with question regarding the best and most affordable way to complete their nursing degree. Many African American nurses become discouraged and overwhelmed while in school, sensing there is not an advocate working with them. #B3N was established to bridge the gap for students, providing a group of nurses willing to mentor our students. #B3N also creates a place where African-American nurses can network with, support, and celebrate the accomplishments of members in our group. This encouragement builds morale. However, our most important work is aimed at building a stronger and healthier community within our primarily African American neighborhoods. Disparities in access to and quality of healthcare have led to worse outcomes for African Americans and are illustrated in higher mortality and morbidity outcomes related to several chronic diseases, including cancer. #B3N works to minimize the impact of factors such as racial bias and socioeconomic factors that attribute to this disparity throughout the spectrum of health care delivery.
