Why Bed-Stuy: The Bishop Art Gallery
Produced by: Stephen Edwards & Matthew Allen
Bedford-Stuyvesant is notorious for a great many things, but fine art isn’t often associated in the “Do-Or-Die” neighborhood. The Bishop Art Gallery has become an outlet for African-American painters and sculptors to display their astral, visceral and reactionary expressions on canvas as well as a destination for Black youth to challenge their allegorical muscles, and see things through a new vantage point. This package explores the creators of the Bishop, their mission and why the presence of the Bishop is important to that neighborhood.
