B Corps: Ethics, Responsibility, and Implementation
Friday, January 17, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM (CST)
San Antonio, TX
Can you make a good living while doing good?
How do you set up a business to be ethical, transparent, and effective while ensuring that it is also financially viable?
What are the new options available in Texas and the US, and what's right for your enterprise?
The Harvey Najim Center for Business Innovation and Social Responsibility at St. Mary's University presents a learning and social event for the legal, business, and student communities entitled B Corps: Ethics, Responsibility, and Implementation.
The evening will start with a brief overview by Suz Burroughs of evolutions in corporate responsibility, social entrepreneurship, and consumer expectations over the past 50 years or so - and a look at where we are headed.
Then, Rey Valencia, Associate Dean of the St Mary's University School of Law, will tell us about about B Corps, the ethics of stakeholder responsibility, and other social enterprise structures.
Next, we'll have a brief panel including a range of mission-driven business models.
- Lorenzo Gomez of the 80/20 Foundation.
- Meghan Garza-Oswald of Community Housing Resource Partners, Inc.
- Raul P. Lomeli-Azoubel and Daniela Perez of SABEResPODER.
- Zac Harris of Monk's Toolbox.
The talk and panel will include a Fermented Friday cocktail hour hosted by Monk's Toolbox and featuring a B Corp beer tasting, fresh local/organic snacks, and B Corp give-aways!

When & Where
The Harvey Najim Center for Business Innovation and Social Responsibility
This event explores the intersections of business, technology and law. We hope this is a unique, timely and practical opportunity for collaborative learning across boundaries - academic, professional and social - to students, alumni and guests.
The Harvey Najim Center for Business Innovation and Social Responsibility works with students, faculty, and businesses to provide opportunities for collaboration on real world projects.
We create interdisciplinary and cross-functional opportunities for learning in the areas of business innovation and social responsibility by identifying projects with global, local, and non-profit organizations.
We match St. Mary's students working towards degrees in business, law, and/or engineering with these projects, faculty supervisors, and other experts. Through these teams, we create low cost, high quality consulting opportunities for businesses and unique learning opportunities for our students. For more information or to learn about how to apply for a project as a business or student, please contact Suz Burroughs at firstname.lastname@example.org.
