Hey Grand Rapids! I'm Jill Wolfe, Grand Rapids citizen and lover of games. In year's past I've always run a scavenger hunt for my friends and family to celebrate my birthday (and the holidays), but this year I want to do things a little differently: I'm designing an Amazing Race-style game that will have teams running all over the city, collecting items to put in a "Home for the Holidays" homewarming gift basket for Family Promise (one of my most beloved local charities that helps families find safe, affordable housing in Grand Rapids). And this year I've decided to invite the public.
Here's how it works: You put together a team of 2-6 friends (or family members) and let me know by Dec. 1 if you plan to participate. The hunt will kick off at 5pm at Rosa Parks Circle, where I'll hand out the first in a series of clues and puzzles for you to solve, leading you to various locations throughout downtown GR. Each location will have an item for you to include in your care package for a homeless family. The more puzzles you solve, the more items you'll have in your package.
Afterwards, WE CELEBRATE (on your own dime)!
If you can't make it but you still want to donate items to the housewarming baskets, that would be AWESOME. You can drop them off at Family Promise (516 Cherry Street SE) or I will even come pick them up from you. You can find a list of items to donate here: familypromisegr.org/wish-list, or, buy/donate something for their Home for the Holidays "recipe:"
+ Artificial Christmas Tree
+ Hot cocoa
+ Christmas lights
+ Night light
+ Kitchen towels
+ Teddy bear
Ditch that lame holiday work party and join us for that rare kind of event — something that will be an absolute blast AND helps connect us more to strangers and the community around us.
NOTE: Please only commit to this if you think you can come. Flake outs & no shows stress me out. That being said, there's only 100 tickets — so grab 'em while you can!
