Awe Walks: Noticing the Ordinary in Peckham
Overview
Awe Walks: Noticing the ordinary in Peckham
Join us for our next Awe Walk - a facilitated group experience and collective act of noticing the magic in the mundane, connecting to the tiny details within the whirl of the everyday.
We'll explore how practicing attention can help us build a relationship with London as an actual place, not just backdrop to our commutes, but somewhere we belong to and notice. These small acts of seeing can create a sense of home and orientation within streets that can often feel empty or transactional, helping us find connection in a city that can otherwise feel like it's designed only for rushing through.
There will be guided walks through the quiet streets of Peckham and facilitated exercises designed to help us connect to the tiny details in the everyday world, noticing moments of beauty within the mundane - shadows of street signs, Buddleia pushing through cracks in the concrete, yellow hues of the autumnal leaves...
Within each exercise, there will be options to engage through the mediums of phone photography, mark-making or simple observation practices - whatever feels most comfortable for you.
This might be for you if:
- You want to expand your capacity for attention and self-regulation - practicing presence as a tool for navigating overwhelm
- You're interested in meeting South London folk who care about intentional, creative ways of being in the world
- You'd like to feel a deeper sense of connection and belonging to the places you live and move through, rather than just passing by
- You're curious about creativity and new ways of engaging with the world - building practices for noticing and creative thinking that you can take with you
Practical info:
Details of the starting point of the walk will be sent out after once you've signed up to the event. The walk will be at a slow pace and will be maximum 1 hour. We will finish the walk at SET Social to share reflections over cups of tea in the garden area. The route and the meetup venue at the end of the walk will be accessible for wheelchair users. Numbers will be capped to 10 to keep it a small, intimate experience.
Please get in touch if you have any further questions or accessibility requests.
