Event description

Description

The Alpine Women Collective and Northeast Mountaineering are joining forces for a day of hiking 3,053' Doublehead Mountain in Jackson, NH. At 1,600' in elevation gain, and 3.6 miles round-trip, this is a relatively short but moderately steep hike. We'll have an opportunity to check out the Doublehead Cabin, and explore with a new crew of mountain-loving friends.

The Plan

We'll be summiting Doublehead in two groups: one at 10:00AM, and one at 2:00PM.

We'll be taking the Avalon Trail for 0.1 mile, and then turn left onto the Mt. Willard Trail, which we'll follow for 1.5 miles to the summit of Mt. Willard. We'll retrace these steps back down to the trailhead.

This hike should take 2–3 hours total. To avoid congesting the trails, we'll stagger the start with groups of 5–8 people. Everyone usually reunites at the summit and at the trailhead however, because the groups can get spread out over the course of the hike, no one is required to wait for the entire group at any point. Everyone should hike their own hike and enjoy it! It's never an issue to go slow, take breaks, or even turn back early.

If you know friends that will be attending the hike, please try to plan a carpool if you can. Dogs on leashes are allowed, and welcome to hike with us!

Trailhead

From NH Route 16 in Jackson, turn onto Route 16A. Take Route 16B (Black Mountain Road) and follow for about 2 miles. Just past Black Mountain Ski Area, Rt 16B turns into Dundee Road. Continue on Dundee Road to the trailhead 1 mile on the left with space for 3–5 vehicles.
