Event description
Learn self-expression through various art activities in this weekly series hosted by Santiago Canyon College.

About this Event

This week's topic: Your Best Memory

Through art, we undergo an altered state of consciousness as we reach a higher vibrational energetic field of healing. This creative process, in turn, affects our immune system, blood flow, and attitude. Unlike other painting courses, the emphasis of this course is based on how healing transforms you through art.

The goal of this course is to for the student to create a legacy he intends to leave to his family—a recorded art history of his personal painting and the memories behind the picture he painted. This art course is meant to be therapeutic in nature.

No matter what skill level a student brings to the drawing board, creating art can significantly lower your stress hormone levels.

In this series of workshops, you:

  • Experience healing with arts as a powerful form of medicine.
  • Finish 5 paintings or different pieces of art.
  • Learn impressionism, abstract and realism using acrylic and/or watercolor and papers.
  • Render acrylic and/or watercolor through smooth blending, gradual tonal changes and layering color without the frustrations of a beginner artist.
  • Promote and encourage tolerance and diversity among students of different ethnic backgrounds, cultures and points of view through art.
  • Express creative art through poetry and stage presentation.

Required supply list:

-16x20 or 12x 16 canvas

-A set of acrylic paints and brushes

-Not required but recommended is table easels.

Supplies will be available to purchase on site.

This course will be experienced in two parts: healing activities such as painting with acrylics, journaling your daily reflections and insights using your choice of art forms: collages, drawing, painting, photography, music, or poetry. The second part is art through verbal self-expression—soliloquies or monologues recited on stage. At home, you can find examples of spiritual practice that can open to your own creativity, such as meditation, yoga, and prayer.
