Description

The Kairos Blanket Exercise on the Green:

An experiential teaching tool to share the historic & contemporary relationship between Indigenous & non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Thursday, August 17. The Green, 37 Halson St, Ancaster, ON

4p-6p. Grade 4 to Grade 8

Several years ago the Government of Canada began the Truth & Reconciliation Commission, focusing on many things but certainly highlighting the atrocities of the Residential School System in Canada. The work of the commission is complete, but the work of reconciliation continues. With support from Canada 150--Hamilton 2017, we are hosting this exercise and inviting the community of Ancaster to participate. Learn the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada and consider how you might enter into the Commission's "94 calls to action."

Did you know Wilson Street in Ancaster was once an Indigenous trail? Where did its first occupants go? Ever wondered why growing up you didn't sit across from Indigenous peoples in public school? We, as residents of Ancaster, are asking you to consider joining us in understanding our Canadian history of colonialism and working together towards reconciliation.

This event is being held oustide under a large covered tent. Please dress according to the weather. No need to bring anything else with you!

Although this event is being hosted by Ancaster Village Church, it is not a "religious" event. AVC is interested in helping the community of Ancaster engage in an important conversation. It's about learning our shared history and moving forward into a better, reconciled, future. Simply put, that's why AVC is doing this.
