The Chicago based, world-renowned Avalon String Quartet returns to the White Lake area for the 10th annual White Lake Chamber Music Festival. This quartet, described as “…deeply musical and sheerly gorgeous”, is the cornerstone of the Festival, presenting 3 concerts, open rehearsals, and community outreach. Having established itself as one of the country’s leading chamber music ensembles, The Avalon String Quartet continues astonishing audiences across the nation with their performances.

Members of the Avalon String Quartet, described by the Chicago Tribune as "an ensemble that invites you — ears, mind, and spirit — into its music," are Blaise Magniere - violin, Marie Wang - violin, Anthony Devroye - viola, and Cheng-Hou Lee – cello. Substituting on cello will be Marina Hoover.

The August 7 concert will take place at 7:30 PM at Lebanon Lutheran (1101 S. Mears, Whitehall). It will feature Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6 in D Major, Op. 40, and Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major.

On August 8 at St. James Lutheran (8945 Stebbins, Montague), pianist Kuang-Hao Huang will join Avalon to present Bach’s Art of Fugue, the Shostakovich Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 57, and Dvorak’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81.

The grand finale concert on August 10 at Lebanon Lutheran (110 S. Mears, Whitehall) will feature Mendelssohn’s Capriccio for String Quartet, György Ligeti: String Quartet No. 1 “Métamorphoses Nocturnes”, and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 7 in F Major, Op. 59 No. 1.

The Quartet will also have a strong presence during the August 9 Baroque Concert at UMC Montague Campus (8555 Cook). Marie Wang will perform the solo violin part on Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.5, and be joined by violinist Blaise Magniere.

These programs are made possible by a grant from the White Lake Community Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.

These exciting concerts are part of the White Lake Chamber Music Festival, August 2-11. Now in its 10th year, the Festival will again comprise a wide variety of exceptional performances and events held throughout the White Lake area of Montague and Whitehall.
